Dover Arts Developpments Chalk Up is a one-year programme in Dover District bringing culture and tourism together. Artistic excellence is at the heart of Chalk Up’s projects: an ambitious series of events bringing culture into tourist and heritage venues, enhancing the experience of Dover for its residents and visitors.

Chalk Up is a part of Culture Kent, and follows Margate and Folkstone as a pilot initiative. Its territory is Dover, Deal, Sandwich and their outlying villages. Culture Kent is part of the wider Cultural Destinations project, funded by Arts  Council England and Visit England it is led by the Turner Contemporary. At its heart, the project is about collaboration, partnership working, and developing pilots both real and virtual which showcase Kent’s cultural assets and extend its reach by attracting new audiences.  During its lifetime, Culture Kent aims to create new strategic relationships between the cultural and tourism sectors in order to drive economic growth and develop the information and knowledge core that strengthens Kent’s Cultural Tourism offer.

The Chalk Up film production Weathertime:

Weathertime is a 30 minute film, with works from 30 selected artists from England, France and Belgium, who created  a visual diary of the weather across the ‘maritory’ of the Straits of Dover during September 2015 . Weathertime is a DAD Chalk Up production directed by Joanna Jones and edited by Sebastian Edge who brought the artists works together with a soundtrack from musicians Paul Cheneour, Francois Le Roux and Marjorie Van Halteren mixed by Marcus Bishop.

The film was part of the DFDS Ferries onboard screenings for passengers between Dover and Dunkirk.

The INSPIRATION=DOVER Concert and Exhibition on May 20th 2016 was the final event of the Chalk Up Dover one year Pilot where contemporary artists brought Dover’s WW1 history to life at the historic Maison Dieu.
