DAD RADIO #9 | Weathertime
A radio showcase of the soundtrack to cross-channel film project Weathertime connecting 30 artists from the ‘Maritory’ coasts of England, France & Belgium.
Weathertime developed from a conversation with Kate France and Sylvie Reteuna and their invitation to develop a project together with them and the group they were working with in Dunkirk. It brings together works by 30 artists from the coasts of England, France and Belgium that form the ‘maritory’ around the Straits of Dover. Together they created a visual diary of the weather in September 2015, each artist responding to the weather and their relation to it on a particular day. These responses – in painting, drawing, print and text – have been woven together into a 30-minute film, by the films editor Sebastian Edge under the direction of Joanna Jones with a soundtrack from musicians Paul Cheneour, Francois Le Roux and Marjorie Van Halteren mixed by Marcus Bishop. Everyones contibution was honoured equally with no edits on the sound or visual content. The result is a truly synergic work transcending the addition of the parts.
Artists: Victoria Pasquino, Sylvie Reteuna, Jonathon Nicoll, Nicolette Picheral, Francesca Howard, Christelle Andries, Clare Smith, Melissa Jacob, Anrafa Mohammedali, Fleur Whitfield, Chris Burke, David Lepoutre, Mike Tedder, Isabelle Vanbelle, Loren Beven, Edith Vanhove, Edda Jones, Phoebe Dingwell, Kate Beaugie, Thérèse Galliot, Helen Lindon, Joke Debaere. “Weathertime is truly hypnotic. It reminds one of long summer days and the ocean. It treads firmly in the footsteps of Philip Glass’s Koyaanisqatsi and with out any doubt fills it’s shoes.”
