DAD RADIO # 10 | Emmaus Dover
Episode #10 of DAD RADIO is dedicated to the work of Emmaus Dover, one of 29 charitable Emmaus communities across the UK supporting over 850 formerly homeless people through meaningful, long-term home and work provision.
DAD RADIO curators Louisa Love & Louise Webb share coverage of their visit to the Emmaus community on 4th May at Dover’s historic Archcliffe Fort, where they had an opportunity to take a tour with Community Manager Debbie Stevenson & Emmaus ‘Companion’ Lawrence, who shares his story of being helped out of homelessness by Emmaus.
Louise and Louisa also see behind the scenes of the Emmaus Dover used/upcycled goods enterprise and the work being done to convert the site as part of the first of a major four-phase ‘Building a Better Future’ development. The four phases of the project include building a new dedicated workshop for repairing, restoring and upcycling furniture, the construction of a new retail space, improving car parking for customers, and creating a destination for people to learn more about the rich history of Dover and Archcliffe Fort.
As of 28th June, Emmaus Dover now has an outdoor cafe open Monday to Saturday, 10am – 4pm offering opportunity to enjoy the social atmosphere and wonderful views of the White Cliffs. All the cafe proceeds help to provide home, food, work and training for the 27 formerly homeless people Emmaus Dover supports.

Curated and presented by Louisa Love & Louise Webb. DAD RADIO airs on Dover Community Radio (DCR FM) on Fridays 7-7.30pm with repeats on Mondays 9-9.30am – tune in via dcrfm.co.uk or the Radio Garden app.
