Maia Magoga is an artist and educator working at the intersection of image-making, social arts, and food. They are moved by the elemental, the sensual and the invisible, often using ritualistic methods to learn from these realms. They are currently obsessed with fire; as a tool for cooking, a means of alchemy, and an emotional state.

Thinking about the poetic potential of what we ingest being the literal chord that connects us to our outside world, Maia understands food- and its innate ecological and social entanglements- to be an invitation into deeper connection with everything around us. They explore this through various avenues like foraging, performative meals, image-making, printed matter, workshops, writing and drawing.

Since graduating from the RCA in 2020, they have been commissioned by the V&A, INIVA arts, San Mei gallery, Collective Ending, Brainchild and Three Rivers, and have had their work published in ACV magazine, WEEDS magazine, Where The Leaves Fall and Finger Food amongst others.
