Dover Tech photography visiting Dover Cafes

Threading Together

Now that the students are back at college they’ve also made a start on the photography part of the project, visiting five different cafes in Dover.

The group really got into their sessions with Ben and Andrew and loved exploring their college, and their town – and their cafés!

  1. The Beano (11 Worthington Street)
Manager: “I’ve woked here for 13 years. I like Dover. It’s small enough for everyone to know each other in this community.”
  2. Cafe on The Curve; Marina Curve
Shane: “We get a lot of people sitting out and looking at the views from here. Within the last two years, Dover has really picked up. We’ve been open two months now, we are very busy, you never get two days that are the same. There is a lot of rebuilding work going on here and it’s all looking lovely and nice on a  sunny day like today.”
  3. The Market Square Kitchen (Market Square)

Natalie: “We’ve got lots of nice customers. Many people take photos of the David Copperfield plaque on the wall outside. We’re getting there slowly after the pandemic. I’d describe ourselves as a Dickens cafe with a castle view.
  4. Xpresso Cafe Dover – Illy’s (Market Square)
Sofia: “I’ve been there for two months now and I really enjoy working with my colleagues and seeing lovely regulars. It’s a friendly place and it is right in the heart of Dover.”
  5. The Sunrise Cafe; (Snargate Street)
The logo design resulted from a competition put out to the public/school children. Space, who runs the shop called The Wrong End of Town, in the London Road made the graphics above the door and designed/installed all the window graphics. She Then designed the menus for them for free and says it “was a great project to be involved in”.
John (customer): “This place is like an oasis of light to me. It has helped me to get my life back on track and I sit and talk and make plans for the future after a difficult time. They are lovely here.”
