Back the Bid for East Kent City of Culture 2017

As part of the campaign for East Kent to become City of Culture 2017, a film crew led by Daniel Lipman, Head of creative projects at the Marlowe Theatre visited Dover today, with BOB and Roberta Smith’s mirrors to capture people’s reflections of East Kent, comprising the five urban centres of Canterbury, Margate, Folkestone, Ashford and Dover, as a City Imagined.

Working to a very tight schedule, the crew chose to film at the iconic sites of Dover Castle and Samphire Hoe, with its view of Shakespeare Cliff. They also filmed by the North Downs Way Start/Finish line conceived and designed by artist Alma Tischler Wood on the award-winning Esplanade, designed by architects Tonkin Liu.

The bid for East Kent to become City of Culture 2017 is a joint partnership between Kent County Council, Ashford Borough Council, Canterbury City Council, Dover District Council, Shepway District Council, Thanet District Council and major arts and cultural organisations in the region.
