Congratulations to Nigel Clarke

War & Peace

Congratulations go to Nigel Clarke, whose composition Dogger, Fisher, German Bight, Humber, Thames, German Wight, was premiered in Dover on 11 October 2013, for winning 2 accolades in 2013.

His double CD When Worlds Collide, described as “perhaps the most distinctive and thought-provoking release of the entire year,” won the 4barsrest 2013 CD award, and his cornet concerto Mysteries of the Horizon won the Brass Band and Wind Band category in the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors (BASCA) Awards.

Of great importance to Nigel is that his music is heard and appreciated by a wide audience, especially those who may not have much experience of contemporary music. These two awards, the first the result of a public vote and the second given “to promote the art of composition, to recognise the creative talent of composers who live and work in the UK and to bring contemporary music to a wider audience” are a mark of his ability to achieve this.

Testimony to this in Dover was the Mayor’s speech at the end of the Transit Pulp&Rags concert.
