IWD 2025

The DOVER Urban Room

International Womens Day 2025 brought a group of women together on March 8th in the urban room all of whom live or have their studio or have recently done a project in Dover.

After much chatter and delight of the spread of vegan dishes that everyone had brought we all shared our feelings and thoughts about what Dover means to us.

Dover’s authenticity came up again and again.
The surprise of experiencing a sense of belonging and home
A place one can be oneself
A place one can realise something
A place that calls one to civic and/or community action
A place that is wild
A place where poverty and deprivation are visible
A place where the infirm and disabled feel free to be themselves in their town
A place that is magical and at the same time tangibly real
A place on the edge

The views, the light and surrounding chalk downs with their special biodiversity of different species living harmoniously together.
And the SEA

Someone suggested that Dover reflects the soul of those that feel at home here: the beauty and the melancholy
